What is the difference between a translator and an interpreter?
Interpreters translate orally, translators in written form.
What do you mean by original or source language and delivery or target language?
The source language is the language in which the original text is written, while the target language is the language into which it is translated.
What is meant by “language combination”?
This indicates the pair of languages from and into which the interpretation or translation will be made.
What is a cross translation?
It is the translation from one foreign language into another without passing through the local language.
Do you use CAT tools?
Yes, our translators make use of assisted translation software such as Trados, Wordfast, Déjà vu, etc.
Do you take account of repetitions and % of match when making your estimate?
Yes, we scan the text and calculate the repetitions.
What information should we give to the translator/interpreter?
Information relative to the terminology used by the client, the purpose and recipient for which the translation is intended (is it a text for publication or for use within the company? is it meant to be informative, academic or for marketing?), material of a general nature about the products or services or specific sector of pertinence.
How can I submit a document for an estimate?
In electronic format: you can send the document directly to our address servizi@nordesttraduzioni.com. We normally accept documents via e-mail up to 20MB. For larger files we can prepare a rapid ftp access.
In hardcopy format: direct delivery to our offices or you can scan them and send them via e-mail or fax. Where possible, they will then be converted into electronic format using special optical character recognition software.
In a very short time you will receive our free estimate.
How to you calculate the rates for translation?
Translations are assessed on the basis of the number of pages or words. A page corresponds to 1500 characters, spaces included. The number of words or pages is always calculated on the source language (the language of the original document).
The rates per page depend on the number of pages but also on the type of text (for example, a legal brief is more demanding than a business letter and requires a greater degree of specialization) and on the language pair required (source language => target language). Some languages are more exotic or rare than others and in the same way certain specializations are more difficult to find (e.g.: in the medical sector).
Your estimate will take account of all these elements, including the format (e.g.: for speed of use the Word format is the most economical and rapid).
Another cost factor could be urgency.
How much time does a translation take?
The time for each translation will be determined and communicated in the estimate; the timing depends on the length and type of text to be translated. The deadlines agreed are always met!
